Take a trip back in time

Brisbane's oldest and only stand-alone 19th-century terrace house was built 150 years ago.

Florence House was built in 1874 by Henry Holmes who also built the historic Gresham Hotel and Brisbane Girls Grammar & Brisbane Boys Grammar boarding houses.

The grandeur of the Victorian is accentuated by cast-iron latticework, twelve-foot ceilings, chandeliers, unique mirrors, ceiling roses, archways and cornices. Our rooms pay homage to the stellar heritage of this historical building.

A fine example of the Victorian era, Florence House is a property for lovers of history, elegance and exquisite craftsmanship.

Florence House was built in the style of terrace houses more common to Sydney and Melbourne.

In 1983 Florence House was restored to its original splendour by David Tyler. Tyler also designed a near-identical twin next door.

On 1 January 2004, the Florence House was recognised as a heritage place by the Brisbane City Council.
