RISKS & RECOVERY
Understanding Risks, Expected Downtime, Treatment Plans & Your Safety at The Manor Clinic
Your safety is our priority at The Manor Clinic. Before any treatment, we want you to feel fully informed, from possible side effects to your personalised treatment journey, and confident that all procedures follow rigorous medical and legal guidelines.
All injectable and non-surgical cosmetic treatments carry inherent risks. The likelihood and severity of side effects vary depending on your individual anatomy, medical history, the treatment areas, and the products used. Your practitioner will provide personalised guidance during your consultation. The information below outlines typical expectations, as well as rare but serious complications.
Informed Consent & Treatment Planning
Before your treatment, your practitioner will discuss:
The product or medication being administered
The treatment areas, recommended dosages, and any off-label or experimental use
All risks, benefits, costs, and potential complications
What to expect during the appointment and throughout recovery
Alternative options, including the choice not to proceed
You will also receive a 12-month personalised treatment plan aligned with your aesthetic goals. If any product, dosage, or treatment area is changed, a new prescription will be required. All medications are individually prescribed, labelled, and matched to your personal treatment record.
When to Seek Help
Contact your treating practitioner immediately if you notice:
Severe or worsening pain
Sudden asymmetry, unusual swelling, or mottled/discoloured skin
Blanching or coolness of the skin
Increasing redness, warmth, or discharge
Vision changes or severe headache (seek emergency care immediately)
For urgent concerns outside clinic hours, seek medical attention promptly.

Typical Downtime & Expected Recovery
Swelling, redness and tenderness
Common after injectable treatments (e.g., dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections)
Usually settles within 2–5 days, depending on the area treated
Bruising
Frequently occurs around sensitive areas such as the lips and under-eyes
Can last up to 10 days, occasionally longer
Pain or discomfort
Mild to moderate discomfort at injection sites may occur
Typically resolves within hours to days
Final aesthetic outcome
Results continue to refine as swelling settles
Most patients see their final outcome within 2–4 weeks, depending on the product used
Potential Complications
Injection-Related Issues
Lumps, nodules or product migration
May occur in the weeks following treatment
Often resolve within 2–6 weeks
May require massage, dissolving agents, oral medications (e.g., antibiotics or steroids), or further assessment
Asymmetry or unevenness
Results may differ between sides due to natural facial asymmetry
Additional treatment or refinement may be needed
Vascular Compromise (Injectables)
A rare but serious complication where filler enters or compresses a blood vessel.
Symptoms can include severe pain, blanching, dusky skin, or coolness
Requires urgent dissolving and medical intervention
Recovery may take weeks to months
Vision changes require emergency care, and vision loss may be irreversible
Infection
Although rare, any procedure that breaks the skin carries a risk.
Signs include increasing redness, heat, swelling, pain or discharge
Typically managed with antibiotics over 1–3 weeks
Severe infections may form abscesses requiring drainage or specialist care
Skin Discolouration
Temporary changes may last weeks to months
Rarely, pigment changes may be permanent
More common in darker skin types or after laser/chemical procedures
Tissue Necrosis or Scarring
Delayed Onset Inflammatory Nodules
Can appear weeks to months after injectable treatments
May require oral medications or specialist management
Allergic/Hypersensitivity Reactions
Uncommon, but possible with any topical or injectable product
May present as swelling, itching, or generalised reaction
Psychological Impact
Dissatisfaction, anxiety or emotional distress can occur
Supportive care, reassurance or referral may be recommended
Cosmetic procedures should not be used as a solution for deeper psychological concerns
