PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

We look forward to welcoming you to The Manor Clinic. Preparing for your appointment is an important part of your treatment journey. Please take a moment to review our pre-care instructions and contact our team if you have any questions. Your practitioner may provide additional guidance based on your individual circumstances and planned treatment.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Appropriate preparation can help your practitioner assess your suitability for treatment and may reduce avoidable irritation, bruising or delays on the day of your appointment.

The information below provides general pre-treatment guidance. Your practitioner may provide different or additional instructions depending on the procedure being considered, your medical history, medications and individual circumstances.

If you are unsure whether something may affect your appointment, please contact The Manor Clinic before attending.

Before Your Appointment

Please ensure the information you provide to The Manor Clinic about your health, medications, allergies and previous treatments is complete and current.

Before treatment, tell your practitioner about:

  • Prescription medications

  • Over-the-counter medications

  • Vitamins, supplements and complementary medicines

  • Allergies or previous allergic reactions

  • Previous reactions to cosmetic, injectable or skin treatments

  • Recent illness or infection

  • Current antibiotics or other new medication

  • Recent or planned vaccinations

  • Recent or planned dental treatment

  • Recent facial, cosmetic or surgical procedures

  • A history of cold sores

  • Any change in your health since your last appointment

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Do not stop or alter a prescribed medication unless the healthcare professional responsible for that medication has advised you to do so.

This includes anticoagulants, antiplatelet medicines and prescribed aspirin.

APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS BEFORE

Dental Treatment

If you have had dental treatment within the previous two weeks, or have dental treatment planned shortly after your appointment, please let The Manor Clinic know before attending.

Depending on the procedure being considered, your practitioner may recommend allowing additional time between dental treatment and cosmetic treatment.

Necessary or urgent dental care should not be delayed because of a cosmetic appointment.

Illness, Infection & Vaccination

Please tell us if, during the two weeks before your appointment, you have experienced:

  • A significant illness

  • Fever or systemic symptoms

  • An active infection

  • A cold sore

  • A significant inflammatory reaction

  • A vaccination

  • Commencement of antibiotics or other significant new medication

These circumstances do not automatically mean treatment cannot proceed, but they may affect treatment suitability or timing.

Your practitioner may recommend postponing elective treatment until you have adequately recovered.

Other Cosmetic or Skin Procedures

Tell us if you have recently undergone or are planning:

  • Laser or IPL

  • Microneedling

  • Chemical peels

  • Facial treatments

  • Facial waxing

  • Other injectable procedures

  • Threads

  • Surgery

  • Dental or maxillofacial procedures

The appropriate interval between procedures depends on what has been performed, the treatment area and how your tissues have recovered.

As a general clinic guideline, some procedures may need to be separated by approximately two weeks or longer.

Medications, Supplements & Bruising

Some medicines and supplements can increase the likelihood of bruising or bleeding.

These may include certain:

  • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines

  • Anti-inflammatory medicines

  • Aspirin

  • Fish oil

  • Vitamin E

  • Ginkgo biloba

  • Garlic or ginseng supplements

  • Other complementary medicines

Do not stop prescribed medication for the purpose of cosmetic treatment without first speaking with the healthcare professional responsible for that medication.

If you take any medication or supplement that may affect bleeding or bruising, tell your practitioner before treatment.

Your practitioner can then consider this as part of your individual risk assessment.

2-3 DAYS BEFORE

Skin Care

Where treatment is planned on the face or involves disruption of the skin, avoid unnecessarily irritating the treatment area before your appointment.

Depending on your normal skincare routine and the procedure planned, it may be appropriate to temporarily avoid:

  • Retinoids or retinol

  • AHAs

  • BHAs

  • Glycolic acid

  • Strong exfoliating products

  • Physical scrubs

  • Other products that cause peeling, redness or irritation

As a general guide, these may be paused for approximately 2–3 days before treatment, particularly if your skin is sensitive or the treatment will involve the skin surface.

Your practitioner may provide different instructions depending on the procedure.

If you use prescription dermatological medication, do not discontinue it without appropriate medical advice.

24-48 HOURS AFTER
  • Avoid excessive alcohol during the 24 hours before treatment

  • Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before your appointment

  • Avoid excessive heat exposure, including saunas or very hot environments

  • Avoid tanning or significant sun exposure that causes redness or sunburn

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, depilatory creams or other potentially irritating hair-removal procedures over the planned treatment area

  • Avoid aggressive exfoliation or other activities that leave the treatment area irritated

If your skin becomes sunburnt, inflamed, broken or significantly irritated, contact The Manor Clinic before attending.

Cold Sores

  • If you have a history of cold sores or herpes simplex, particularly around the lips or treatment area, please tell your practitioner before treatment.

  • Procedures involving the lips or surrounding skin can sometimes trigger a recurrence.

  • If preventative antiviral medication is considered appropriate, this should be discussed with an appropriately qualified healthcare practitioner.

  • Treatment should generally be postponed if you have an active cold sore or active infection in or near the treatment area.

  • Please contact The Manor Clinic before your appointment if you develop symptoms.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • Please advise The Manor Clinic if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are breastfeeding.

  • The Manor Clinic does not perform elective cosmetic injectable treatments during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

  • If your circumstances have changed since making your appointment, please contact the Clinic before attending so your appointment can be appropriately reviewed or rescheduled.

Travel & Important Events

Cosmetic procedures can involve swelling, bruising, redness and other temporary effects.

Where possible, allow adequate recovery time before:

  • Weddings

  • Major social events

  • Professional photography

  • Important work commitments

  • International or long-distance travel

If you are planning to fly shortly after a volume or contour treatment, please tell your practitioner before treatment.

Where possible, we recommend remaining within reasonable access to appropriate medical care for at least the first 24 hours following these treatments in case an uncommon complication requires prompt assessment.

Day of Treatment

Please Arrive With Clean Skin

Where possible, arrive with the planned treatment area:

  • Clean

  • Free from makeup

  • Free from heavy skincare products

  • Free from fake tan over the treatment area

If this is not possible, your skin can be appropriately prepared before treatment.

Eat & Hydrate Normally

  • Unless you have specifically been instructed otherwise for another medical reason, there is generally no need to fast before treatment.

  • Eat normally and remain adequately hydrated before your appointment.

Take Your Usual Prescribed Medication

  • Continue medications as prescribed unless the healthcare professional responsible for that medication has specifically advised you otherwise.

  • Please tell your practitioner if you have commenced any new medication since completing your medical information.

Do Not Apply Your Own Numbing Cream Unless Instructed

  • Do not apply topical anaesthetic or numbing products before arriving unless The Manor Clinic has specifically asked you to do so.

  • Where anaesthesia or pain-management measures are appropriate, these will be discussed with you and documented as part of your treatment.

Please Contact Us Before Attending If

Contact The Manor Clinic before your appointment if you:

  • Feel unwell

  • Have developed an infection

  • Have a fever

  • Have an active cold sore

  • Have significant redness, inflammation, rash or broken skin in the planned treatment area

  • Have commenced antibiotics

  • Have had an unexpected allergic or inflammatory reaction

  • Have recently undergone another facial, cosmetic, dental or surgical procedure

  • Have had a significant change in your medical history

  • Have commenced a new medication

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have another concern that may affect whether treatment should proceed

It may be safer to postpone an elective cosmetic procedure until you have recovered or your suitability has been reassessed.

Your Consultation & Treatment Decision

Attending an appointment does not mean treatment must proceed.

Before treatment, your practitioner will assess your suitability and discuss the treatment proposed for you, including relevant benefits, limitations, material risks, alternatives, expected recovery and costs.

Depending on your assessment, your practitioner may:

  • Recommend a different treatment plan

  • Recommend delaying treatment

  • Request further medical information

  • Recommend review by another healthcare practitioner

  • Decide that treatment is not clinically appropriate

You may ask questions and decide not to proceed at any time before treatment.

This page provides general pre-treatment information and does not replace individual medical advice, your practitioner consultation or the instructions provided specifically for your treatment.

The precautions described on this page are not exhaustive. Your individual medical history, medications, allergies, previous procedures, anatomy, skin condition and other circumstances may affect treatment suitability or require different precautions.

If your practitioner has provided instructions that differ from this general information, follow the individual instructions provided specifically for you.

Do not stop, commence or alter prescribed medication solely in preparation for cosmetic treatment unless advised by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional responsible for that medication.

If your health or circumstances change before your appointment, please tell The Manor Clinic so your suitability can be reassessed.

If you are unsure whether an illness, medication, supplement, recent procedure or other circumstance could affect your treatment, contact The Manor Clinic before your appointment rather than making changes yourself.
